One of the things that worried us in our new boat was how to solve the Antifouling issue. In the Trotamar III we had solved it with a copper paint that dressed the gut of the boat of blue-green. When removing it from the water it was only needed a little water with the Karcher and it was again like new. Only a thin layer of algae was fixed to the copper surface. In this way, year after year and for more than ten years. Sometimes we retouched the painting a little on the waterline, but in reality this system did not give us much work. But this solution was not worth for our aluminum boat and at first glance the only solution seems to be the antifouling paint, which has to be renewed every year and that is releasing poison and spreading it in the sea. I already saw myself with the brush and mask every season and suffering from the damage that you are leaving behind, because even if it is not a lot, we are many boats …

But as always, we went around and around until we found an answer to our problem. The captain studied all the possibilities: he considered lining the boat with a silicone film, studied the effects and effectiveness of the antifouling ultrasound devices, researched here and there and finally found the best system available today: Finsulate. He discovered it in a video in which they were applying it to a merchant and he thought, „if this is applied to this type of boat, it really works.“ It consists of putting a carpet on the hull: a film with a non-toxic adhesive, which sticks directly, like those „aironfix“ with which we lined the books, or those imitating wood with which my mother lined the drawers of the cabinets. This film is covered by a Nylon material that is pleasant to the touch, but not comfortable for molluscs and sea bugs. The installation is simple, it only takes patience and a little bit of skill. Finsulate team helped by Normandy Yacht Services personnel took a day's work to make the Trotamar 4 ready - Of course, you have to see them working!, it would take me a week to do the same and I would have finish with the film stuck to the hairs and cut fingers. They say it is very resistant, if it wouldn’t, you can always repair it. And they say that in five years you do not have to do anything else, but clean it with a brush, or a little bit of water, and it will be like new.

Trotamar 4 has now a very elegant black carpet on the outside, and inside, the site already prepared for a black and white musical instrument. A luxury boat! I think the dolphins will come with pleasure to visit us, to hear the music that will sound inside and rub the back on our carpet outside.
